Contrasting Classical and Critical Geopolitics: An Analysis of Current Events

Selim Ibraimi– Last year in the article “Analytical deformations during geopolitical developments and their correction”, published in Portalb. mk, with a date. 18/6/2023, we have made some comments on this issue, showing concretely from everyday life, and history about errors in analytical conclusions during the development of geopolitics. Today’s article is about the face of the contrast between classical and critical geopolitics in the eyes and minds of the public from a dynamic world, where the hidden actors have more importance and power. Most importantly, the epicenter of the analysis contains the contrast that the analyst or observer is the main “range” of the study of phenomena related to geopolitical events. In a time fraught with unpredictable events, in national and local scenes, readers and viewers are caught between reality and confusion. Sometimes, a piece of news is distributed as verified, and sometimes it has become unverified regarding its content. At this time when everything that is published must be reviewed, another way to establish a rule in the analytical genres that are reliable is to apply the methodology in geopolitical analysis to avoid the contrast that comes not only from disinformation but also from the lack of connection between classical and critical geopolitics. Now let’s start with concrete events with influence around the globe and in the Balkans.
The presidential elections of November 5, 2024, in the US, for the EU, and the Balkans, bring a hazy picture of the behavior in sight, Bosnia, Kosovo, etc. Having a clearer idea and view, all the possibilities that cannot be seen beyond, and in-depth is what has a certain method regarding the events and events of geopolitical economic character coming from the US, EU, China, India, Russia, and the states of the Middle East. In any case, however, there may be the current international interpretation or its fading, everything as a point of reference for an observer, must be the philosophy of history, whether European or Eastern, to see how the events will end in the stages in it. which pass societies. In major global trends, a single observer can’t stay on top of all foreign news and events. And in such narrow cases the analyst’s focus on a field and region, since “the ideologization of political policies and the fading of basic democratic values” have contributed to the creation of a complex geopolitical landscape that requires the application of methodology as a minimum criterion for the first. Further, it is simply necessary to make a connection between critical and classical geopolitics, where geopolitical constructivism is presented. Changes in the global, continental, regional, national, and local arena have important implications for the future of states, as we have a link between states in the international system. Rising powers such as China, India, and the states of the Middle East, not to mention Indonesia and Malaysia, exert their global influence. Therefore, a geopolitical analyst burdened with news from all sides should not despair and lose faith in his analysis. The analyst, as we said above, must narrow the scope of observation, with a plan not only in the daily news, and government statements, but the analyst needs to put into practice the application of the philosophy of history as occasions to observe not only the regional trends of the world. The viewing contrast should not be high compared to the traditional paradigms established earlier during the 19th and 20th centuries. If we manage to understand these paradigms, and of course better study the variables that interact in the dynamics between the geography, and the politicians in the arena, then it is very easy to navigate the geopolitical analysis which may even have negative conclusions. accurate, but keep the public/reader on the right course of information.
In domestic politics, we have a wide field of interaction between state and non-right actors, the internal relations of states, their history, and how others are manifested in public discourses with the value of classical geopolitical analysis and critical. Here as an example again we can take the case between Kosovo and Serbia, North Macedonia with its other states, or the case of Russia with Ukraine, and how will be manifested in international and global relations. The main obligation of an analyst is to break down complex primes that have an impact on the internal and external processes of states. Therefore, when such contrasts are presented in the media, with large margins of error, then here we have a lack of application of the method that a researcher should have followed. Geopolitical analysis based on a methodology, permanent and objective observation, the philosophy of history, and actuality, will surely be an appropriate product not only for public opinion but also for government institutions. Furthermore, the contrast in geopolitical analysis should not be large from the analyst’s direct observation. Methodological combination and observation remained the basis for reliable objective geopolitical studies. The geopolitical contrast in the publications of the last decade in the Balkan space and especially in the Albanian space has been high, due to the lack of Albanian university tradition in geopolitics, and the lack of specialized institutes. Therefore, errors in judgments and evaluations in the Albanian press and politics are also large regarding the course of events in the world and in particular in influential countries, whether friends or enemies. As an example, the Trump case in the US and the effects in Europe, Russia, or the Balkans can be seen again, and many other examples that entered the domain of classical and critical geopolitical analysis, where new approaches are also needed to analyze events of importance to our time.
