BY SELIM IBRAIMI- The most sustainable and long-term option for American diplomacy in the Balkans is to support ideas and projects that in principle have the right to self-determination of ethnic groups and the review of the border lines established during the Balkan Wars, World War I and World War II.
– The State Department still operates with the paradigm of the 90s for Southeast Europe and as a result of this paradigm that required changes after 2008 and that did not happen, and of course the first difficulties emerged with the support that the State Department gave to former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and flaws for creating a vacuum for Russian involvement in the Balkans.
– As a result of changes in the international system, in the next two decades we see two evolving policies that will affect Southeast Europe:
1. Creation of states with new geographic areas and ethnic composition not so distinctive.
2. Small countries with weak economic capacities and lack of internal and inter-ethnic stability.
-Washington it’s plunged into global competition for dominance and it is still unclear what kind of the Balkans wants, except that it is continuing to support the idea of joining the Balkan states, into Euro-Atlantic structures. (ISSDMaqedonia- @CSSDMacedonia)
